Sell your photos

You can sell your photos from a number of different sources, and here are some of my favourites:

Micropayment sites:
These sites sell for very low prices but it is easier to get more sales. Usually have some usage restrictions (e.g. photos are not allowed to be sold as posters or postcards) in their license agreement. Most of them now offer you the option to sell your images under a more expensive extended liscence which will allow a wider usage of your images and yield a higher return. Your image will go through a strict image approval process with all of these sites. This can be frustrating, but also a great learning tool.

Tips for photographers getting started in creating & selling stock images:

1. Get a decent digital camera,
at least 6MP. dSLR is best if you can afford it.

2. Be creative! Do not be too creative! :-) Simple, conceptual images and good people images sell well.

3. Set up your own home studio - it doesn't have to cost a fortune!

4. Calibrate your monitor with good calibration tool - save you a hole lot of work re-editing your work later!!

5. Get a good image editing program, preferrably Photoshop, if you can afford it. A cheaper alternative is PaintShopPro or Photoshop Elements

6. Shoot in RAW if you can (if you don't have RAW you can use TIFF), edit with layers if possible and save the file as TIFF or PSD/PSP/other with layers before saving the jpeg in max quality for web
